Donald Trump shows no sign of being willing to stop his attacks on former LE columnist Jean Carroll, although the former president is putting himself at risk of further lawsuits.
Carroll successfully sued Trump over allegations that he assaulted her at a Bergdorf Goodman store in New York in the nineties, then defamed her while rejecting the accusations. On May 9, the jury ordered Carroll to pay $5 million in compensatory and punitive payments.
A day after a New York jury found Trump responsible for the assault and defamation of Carroll, the former appeared on CNN City Hall, where he again indicated that the assault was a “hoax” and that Carroll was “crazy.”
Carroll is now demanding that a separate defamation lawsuit she filed in 2019 against Trump be amended to reflect his statements on the CNN City Council. Carroll is now seeking an additional ten million dollars in monetary compensation because the former president “doubled” his “insulting” comments.
Donald Trump speaks to supporters at a rally in support of local candidates at the Mohigan-Son Arena on September 3, 2022, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Jean Carroll could continue to file defamation lawsuits against Trump if he continues to insult her and deny that the assault took place.
Donald Trump keeps digging himself a bigger hole
The proposed amended complaint stated that “Trump’s defamatory statements after the verdict show the depth of his hatred toward Carroll because it is difficult to imagine defamatory behavior that could be more motivated by hate, bad faith, or malice.”
“This behavior supports very large punitive damages in favor of Carroll to punish Trump, deter him from engaging in further defamation, and deter others from doing the same.”
Jane Carroll, I never met or touched her (except on a celebrity line with her African-American husband who she disgustingly calls the monkey,)
I didn’t want to know her or touch her, I didn’t assault her or rape her or take her to the locker room 25 years ago in a crowded store where doors were closed, she had no idea when, or did anything else for her, except to deny her fake, contrived, book story : ” Trump posted on Truth Social on May 23 “.
