In 2023, Tesla Cybertruck Will Finally Arrive, But Will Anyone Care
It was almost the industry’s first electric pickup truck. Rivian, though, came out first with the R1T.
Tesla recently revealed that the Cybertruck would actually materialize and would start selling in 2023.
The priciest model, equipped with three electric engines, has a 14,000-pound towing capacity.
The Cybertruck will face competition from the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T , GMC Hummer EV , and Chevy Silverado EV if it is made available.
The car, like many other Tesla products , claimed to revolutionize the auto industry. The strange pickup is now expected to go online in 2023, but the project rapidly went into limbo and didn’t surface again until very recently. Tesla would have been the first automaker to introduce an electric pickup truck if the figurative No. 2 hadn’t hit the fan. Instead, Rivian’s R1T beat it to the punch.
And that’s a shame because the Cybertruck would have been very reasonably priced, with the standard single-motor model starting at just $39,990. If accurate, the price of the dual- and triple-motor versions at launch was $49,900 and $69,900, respectively. Rivian’s R1T would have been completely outclassed by this.
In 2021 and continuous chip shortages in 2022 were initially given as justifications for Tesla’s further production schedule delays.

Elon Musk demonstration of “unbreakable” glass at Cybertruck’s initial presentation didn’t go over particularly well; it was hilariously dead on arrival. The glass was broken by hurling a metal ball bearing at it at a modest speed, demonstrating that it was, um, breakable.
The sheer amount of projects Tesla has over-promised or made false promises on, including the semi-truck, the roadster, the $25,000 hatchback, and perhaps even the Cybertruck itself, makes that blunder seem rather trivial. The Model Y was the last new Tesla automobile to actually be produced. (But it doesn’t mean other initiatives, like the Powerwall or Solar Roof, which we truly appreciate, are ineffective.)

Despite prior failures, high-quality trucks from reputable brands are rapidly entering the electric truck market. Both the Rivian R1T and the Ford F-150 Lightning have already been released on the market, and we had a great time driving both. The Chevy Silverado EV will follow quickly in 2023, and GMC’s Hummer EV will arrive this year.
An electric truck requires a large financial commitment. However, a recent Edmunds study found that automobile buyers are becoming more open to trying out greener models like hybrids and EVs. But brand loyalty also has an impact. Although the Cybertruck appears to be an engineering marvel, it will be challenging to persuade the owner of, say, a Ford F-150 to go on board.
Not to mention Ford’s extensive background in producing the most popular pickup truck in the country. Instead of creating something entirely new, they merely electrified a pickup truck that was already damned fantastic.
Despite the difficulties in producing the Tesla Cybertruck, there is still a lot to look forward to if and when it does. With “greater utility than a truck with more performance than a sports car,” according to Tesla, its steampunk electric vehicle. On top of that, it offers a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and a range of 500 miles on a single charge, but the website doesn’t say if these claims apply to a single, double, or triple-motor configuration.
However, we believe the Tesla Cybertruck angular design is its main appeal. The design is so stark that it may be mistaken for a rejected sketch of Master Chief’s warthog from the Halo video game franchise. This cutting-edge appearance is made possible by an exoskeleton constructed from extremely durable 30x cold-rolled stainless steel.
The Cybertruck is going to be a real show-stopper if it is successful. Elon Musk is just blowing hot air until it happens.
